Soft Facade of Stretched Ropes and Local Materials in a Nature-Focused Retreat

Project in-detail

The soft facade crafted from stretched ropes and local pine creates a fluid connection between interior and exterior, offering a tranquil space for yoga and meditation within the natural landscape of the Vale De Moses.
5 key facts about this project
01
Soft facade made of stretched ropes allows for adjustable openness to the environment.
02
Roof design incorporates a sloping plane that enhances natural light and views.
03
Local pine, stones, bio-resins, and fibers reflect a commitment to sustainable materials.
04
Rolling screens provide natural ventilation while protecting from the elements.
05
Extensive roof overhangs create spaces for gathering and meditation outdoors.

RISE is located in the Vale De Moses Yoga Retreat, where the design emphasizes the connection between built space and the natural environment. The structure features a prominent roof that serves as both an architectural highlight and a functional element. This sloping roof enhances the interaction between users and their surroundings, framing beautiful views while offering protection from the elements like wind and rain.

Architecture Concept

The design centers around the ideas of movement and flexibility, inspired by the actions of the human body during yoga. The shape of the building is influenced by these movements, facilitating a transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. This connection to nature is essential for the yoga experience, allowing users to feel engaged with the landscape surrounding them.

Layout and Functionality

The layout is designed to be simple and practical, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all users. The positioning of the pavilion allows for natural self-shading, which helps provide comfort. Additionally, rolling screens complete the design by offering both ventilation and shelter from the weather. This thoughtful arrangement makes the space adaptable for various activities, catering to the diverse needs of retreat participants.

Materiality

The choice of materials plays a significant role in the overall design, with a focus on local resources. Local pine trees, stones, bio-resins, and fibers have been utilized in construction. This choice not only emphasizes sustainability but also strengthens the connection to the local environment and culture. By choosing these materials, the design reflects a commitment to ecological awareness and community engagement.

Design Features

One intriguing element of RISE is the soft facade made from stretched ropes. This design provides a protective barrier while allowing for openness. Users can adjust the ropes according to their preference, creating different levels of interaction with the outdoor environment. The roof extends outward, forming spaces for gathering and meditation. This design encourages communal activities, fostering connections among users within a tranquil landscape.
