The project "Hospice: The Gracefully Death Acceptance" serves as a tranquil space for individuals facing terminal illness. Located near Vejthani Hospital and Kasemrada Hospital, it reflects a design concept deeply rooted in Buddhist teachings about life and death. The focus is on creating a comforting environment that guides patients and their families through their final moments together.

Conceptual Framework

At its core, the design explores the transitions of life: birth, old age, sickness, and death, leading to the idea of reincarnation. Each life stage is expressed through specific architectural elements that promote peace and acceptance. The "Born" phase welcomes light and natural elements, fostering an atmosphere of hope. The "Old" phase features spaces for patient discussions and mental care, using textures that bring a sense of familiarity and warmth.

Spatial Organization

The layout of the hospice balances communal areas with private spaces. Areas for social interaction include a patients’ discussion room, encouraging connection among individuals. A meditation area offers a quiet corner for personal reflection, while a sound therapy room provides a soothing environment for relaxation. This thoughtful arrangement allows patients to choose their level of engagement, addressing both the need for community and the value of solitude.

Design Considerations

Designed to enhance accessibility, the hospice strengthens connections within the surrounding community. The intention to use older materials in the "Old" phase suggests a deliberate choice to evoke comfort and nostalgia. Each space aims to connect individuals with their surroundings, creating an environment that supports healing.

While specific materials are not detailed, the overall design emphasizes a gentle and dignified approach to the transition of life. The careful arrangement of light and space works to create a calm atmosphere. Patients find solace in the interaction between quiet spaces and reflective areas. Here, they can navigate their final journey with grace and acceptance, supported by an environment that understands their needs.
