## Overview
The Sel Beer Retreat is located near Lake Mývatn in Iceland, positioned to take advantage of the unique geological and scenic characteristics of the area. The project combines hospitality and leisure elements, reflecting contemporary architectural design while honoring local vernacular influences. It seeks to create a space that enhances user experience through a focus on natural surroundings and cultural heritage, balancing innovation with sustainability principles.

## Spatial Strategy and Cultural Integration
The design prioritizes maximizing views of the lake and its natural environment, utilizing reconfigured existing structures to reduce construction costs and environmental impact. Key architectural features include large windows that promote transparency and visual connectivity with the landscape. Inspired by traditional Icelandic building styles, the retreat incorporates local materials and craftsmanship, further grounding the structure in its cultural context. Functional spaces such as the brewery, spa facilities, and guest suites are carefully arranged to encourage social interaction while providing comfort and an immersive experience in nature.

## Material Selection and Sustainability
The choice of materials underscores the project's commitment to sustainability. Wood, sourced from local suppliers, is extensively used for cladding and structure, connecting the building to its natural surroundings. Steel elements provide seismic resistance and durability needed for the region’s tectonically active environment. Additionally, the integration of extensive glazing enhances natural light and views, while the recycling of existing structures minimizes waste and honors the historical narrative of the site. The design also includes advanced insulation techniques to reduce energy consumption and promote environmental responsibility throughout the building's operational life.
