BOLIDE is a meticulously designed private yacht that exemplifies a modern approach to maritime architecture, focusing on both functionality and aesthetics. This project spans 1500 square meters and is conceptualized by Fabio Mazzeo Architects. It integrates expansive glass surfaces, a thoughtful layout of interior spaces, and high-quality materials to create a luxurious yet practical living environment at sea.

The design aims to establish a seamless connection between the yacht's interior and the surrounding marine environment. The use of large glass panels facilitates unobstructed views and allows natural light to permeate the interior, which enhances the spatial experience onboard. The overall structure and layout cater to both leisure and entertainment, with dedicated zones for relaxation, recreation, and social interaction.

Unique Design Approaches

A defining characteristic of BOLIDE is its extensive use of glass, which measures over 500 square meters, strategically placed to optimize views and light. This design choice challenges conventional yacht design by dissolving the barriers between inside and outside, promoting a sense of openness and freedom. The incorporation of retractable glass partitions further enhances adaptability, allowing for various configurations depending on the occasion.

The interior layout is organized around key functional areas including a master suite with a private spa, fitness center, and entertainment zones on the upper deck, which include a swimming pool. These thoughtfully allocated spaces underscore the yacht's commitment to luxury and comfort, providing all necessary amenities while maintaining a cohesive design language.

Architectural Materials and Elements

The choice of materials also plays a crucial role in defining the yacht's character. The primary structural component is steel, providing strength and longevity, while natural wood accents within the interior deliver warmth and sophistication. High-end fabrics are utilized throughout the furnishings, ensuring both comfort and elegance.

BOLIDE stands out in the realm of yacht architecture for its careful integration of luxurious features with functional design. Every element has been optimized for performance, from the exterior silhouette to the interior layouts, fostering an inviting atmosphere.

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge invites architects and designers to create iconic public sculptures for one of two sites in Saudi Arabia: Abu Hadriyah Road or the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar. Proposals should reflect Saudi identity, culture, and future aspirations.

`

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge is an international architecture and design competition inviting creatives to shape the future of Saudi Arabia’s public spaces. With a total prize fund of €50,000, the competition calls for sculptural proposals that merge cultural symbolism with innovative design, offering participants a chance to see their concepts brought to life in a rapidly transforming national context.

Organised by Buildner in partnership with the Mujassam Watan Initiative, the challenge focuses on two prominent locations: Abu Hadriyah Road, a major highway and gateway into the Eastern Province, and the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar, a pedestrian-focused waterfront district. Designers must select one site and develop a sculpture that engages with its surroundings—whether addressing the fast-paced dynamism of a transit corridor or creating moments of interaction along a coastal promenade.

Proposals should be bold, site-specific, and rooted in narrative—drawing on themes such as heritage, national identity, transformation, and dialogue. Environmental responsiveness, material durability, and feasibility are strongly encouraged, as winning projects may be selected for actual construction.

Each submission must include four A2 landscape presentation boards, a cover image, and a written project description. The competition is open to professionals and students alike, working individually or in teams of up to four people. No professional license is required.

Registration is open until July 24, 2025, with final submissions due by August 27, 2025. Winners will be announced on October 1, 2025.
