The Monte d'Oiro Wine Rooms are situated in Alenquer, Portugal, within a scenic vineyard landscape. Designed specifically for wine tasting, the project includes two distinct spaces: one larger area intended for gatherings and another smaller room suited for more private events. The design concept highlights a strong connection between the architecture and the surrounding nature, creating an environment that encourages exploration and interaction.

Architectural Concept

The design reflects a sense of place and tradition, linking the structure to the local culture of winemaking. Visitors are invited to engage with their surroundings, experiencing a narrative reminiscent of ancient ruins. This approach allows for social engagement while also providing opportunities for personal reflection.

Spatial Configuration

The wine tasting rooms are arranged for flexibility. They can easily connect through a courtyard that features tables alongside hearths set into a substantial stone wall. This design choice enhances the communal spirit of the setting. It allows larger groups to gather comfortably while still accommodating smaller parties.

Materiality and Aesthetic

Materials play an important role in the overall design. White stone and shining stucco rise against the landscape, their slightly worn tops reflecting a timeless quality while still appearing contemporary. Large glass panels contrast with the sturdy stone walls, inviting natural light into the spaces and creating a strong visual connection to the outside environment.

Environmental Integration

The design emphasizes the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. Generous glass openings allow fresh air and the aromas of the vineyard to flow inside. This feature not only enhances the sensory experience during wine tasting but also ensures comfort for those inside.

A dynamic ceiling design adds interest to the interiors, echoing the lines of the roof while providing a sense of rhythm throughout the space. The overall result is a thoughtful blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, inviting visitors to experience the essence of the vineyard.
