The UKIYO Yoga House is located near the Rio Zezere and is designed to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings. It serves as a space for yoga practice and promotes overall wellness. The design focuses on the idea of mindfulness, creating an environment that invites users to connect with themselves and nature. The concept of “The Floating World” reflects this connection, emphasizing peaceful spaces for reflection and community.

Design and Layout

The layout centers on a core structure that houses key facilities, including a shala, kitchen, changing rooms, toilets, and sleeping areas. This arrangement allows for easy movement within the building, ensuring that users experience a smooth flow throughout the different spaces. Each area is planned with care, contributing to the overall sense of calm that the Yoga House aims to provide.

Architectural Elements

The elevations of the building feature unique shapes that draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape. A prominent aspect is the round reinforced concrete wall, which supports wooden trusses. This combination of form and function adds to the visual appeal of the building. It stands out while allowing the structure to fit into the natural environment, enhancing its presence in the landscape.

Sustainability Features

Sustainability is an important aspect of the UKIYO design. Solar panels on the roof contribute to energy efficiency. A natural drainage system collects rainwater, highlighting the commitment to environmental responsibility. Additionally, the building includes methods for natural ventilation, ensuring a comfortable atmosphere inside.

Connection to Nature

Glazed panels play a key role in creating a connection to the landscape. These panels enable views of the outdoors, allowing natural light to fill the interiors. Instead of traditional gardens, the design incorporates wall frames that encourage residents to grow small pot gardens, fostering a deeper relationship with their surroundings.

The floating roof above creates a light and airy feel, blending the building into the rolling topography while offering shelter and a unique visual character.
