Rooftop Garden and Circular Design Enhanced by Natural Stone and Wood Elements in a Hospice Facility

Project in-detail

A rooftop garden complements the circular layout enriched with natural stone and wood, creating a tranquil environment tailored for hospice care and fostering connection between patients and their families.
5 key facts about this project
01
Rooftop garden designed to symbolize the cycle of life and memory.
02
Circular layout promotes natural movement and interaction among users.
03
Use of charred wooden shingles enhances durability and fire resistance.
04
Integration of natural stone for both aesthetics and thermal regulation.
05
Reflection spaces strategically located to facilitate private contemplation.
The architectural project "Embrace" is designed as a hospice facility aimed at fostering an environment that nurtures both patients and their families during end-of-life transitions. The project emphasizes the significance of human connection, memory, and tranquility, creating spaces that cater to diverse experiences within the hospice context.

The layout comprises various interconnected areas, including reflection spaces, an activity zone for families, and a rooftop garden designed to enhance the therapeutic experience. Each section is thoughtfully arranged to facilitate comfort and natural interaction, allowing for personal reflection and communal gatherings.

A defining aspect of "Embrace" is its circular spatial configuration, which promotes a sense of flow and continuity throughout the facility. This design approach influences the way visitors navigate the building, encouraging exploration and engagement with different activities while maintaining a connection to the surrounding nature. The entrance area serves as a welcoming point, promoting immediate comfort and ease for arriving visitors, while reflection areas are thoughtfully dispersed to provide private moments for contemplation.

The rooftop garden is a particularly unique element, designed as an extension of the facility that symbolizes the cycles of life and memory. This green space allows users to connect with nature, fostering a serene environment conducive to relaxation and reflection. The incorporation of natural elements throughout the project, such as plants and outdoor views, enhances the overall ambiance and serves to ground the building within its tropical context.

Material selection is another critical aspect that differentiates this project. The combination of concrete, wood, glass, and natural stone creates spaces that are both functional and inviting. Concrete provides structural integrity, while wood adds warmth, and large glass panels facilitate natural light exchange. The use of natural stone ensures durability and a sense of connection to the earth.

In terms of function, "Embrace" serves not only as a hospice but as a community space that allows for diverse interactions among visitors, family members, and healthcare staff. It addresses the emotional needs of those experiencing loss, ensuring that care is delivered within an environment that prioritizes comfort, support, and dignity.
