The Aurora Tower and visitor center are located in the striking landscape of Iceland, where the Northern Lights create a natural spectacle. The design aims to connect the built structures with their surroundings while respecting the untouched beauty of the area. The focus is on minimal intervention and sustainable practices, enhancing the visitor experience through a thoughtful integration of form and function.

Conceptual Framework

The design draws inspiration from the Aurora Borealis, linking its historical significance to the present. The Aurora Tower stands as a visible landmark against the natural backdrop. It mirrors the changes in the landscape throughout the seasons, which adds depth to the overall architectural experience. This connection brings visitors closer to the beauty and drama of nature.

Accessibility and Pathways

Accessibility is a key consideration in the layout, with pathways guiding visitors to the tower and the visitor center. These paths are constructed using modular techniques, making them easy to assemble and reducing site disturbance. The design allows visitors to explore the landscape comfortably, encouraging interaction with the environment while providing a safe way to navigate the area.

Visitor Center Design

The visitor center is deliberately situated to foster engagement with the landscape. Its design features a glass roof that opens towards the south, inviting natural light into the space. The layout includes distinct sections for staff use and public facilities, creating a flexible environment that caters to different activities and needs.

Accommodation and Infrastructure

In addition to the main structures, the Aurora cabins provide unique accommodation options that reflect the architectural style of the tower. These cabins are designed for guest comfort and privacy. Infrastructure supporting the project includes energy and water modules, which ensure that operations are sustainable and resource-efficient.

The tower's reflective surfaces are carefully designed to respond to varying light conditions, allowing it to engage with the colorful display of the aurora. This thoughtful element adds a visual richness that complements the natural phenomena of the region, creating a captivating experience for all who visit.
