### Project Overview

Parallax is located near Lake Myvatn in Iceland and functions as a guesthouse designed to maximize views of the Northern Lights. The concept of "parallax," which describes how visual perception changes with perspective, informs the architectural approach. The design intent centers on providing intimate spaces that also embrace the expansive natural landscape, fostering an engaging guest experience.

### Spatial Strategy and Integration

The layout emphasizes a journey from communal areas to private guesthouses. This spatial organization not only facilitates physical movement but also enhances the experiential journey for visitors. The architecture is aligned with the site's undulating topography, ensuring that the arrangement of the guesthouses encourages interaction with the natural environment while minimizing ecological disruption.

Mirrored surfaces and strategic angles are employed to create unique interactions between guests and the landscape, allowing for diverse experiences of the surrounding beauty. The reflective elements serve to incorporate views of both the sky and the land, enhancing the overall sense of place and immersion in the setting.

### Materiality and Sustainability

The choice of materials plays a critical role in the design, utilizing primarily glass and wood to establish transparency and continuity with the environment. Sloped roofs elevate sightlines and evoke a connection to the sky. Communal pathways are illuminated with soft, reflective lighting, enhancing visual cohesion with the landscape.

Sustainability initiatives are integral to the project, incorporating geothermal heating and passive solar strategies to optimize energy efficiency. The use of natural materials not only fosters aesthetic warmth but also reinforces the commitment to environmental responsibility, ensuring that the guesthouses remain in harmony with their surroundings while providing a comfortable stay for visitors.
