The mobile rave station is a modular design intended to enrich the nightlife of Berlin, a city known for its vibrant music scene and social gatherings. Functioning as a temporary venue, it can be easily set up in various urban locations, creating a space for shared experiences. The project emphasizes flexibility and energy efficiency while engaging users through interactive features and immersive environments.

Design Concept

The design consists of multiple components, including a packed folded structure, an unpacked folding structure, a floor fixing system, and a connection to a vending machine. This arrangement allows for quick assembly and disassembly, catering to the fast pace of urban life. By making it easy to transport and install, the structure supports a range of cultural events and activities in public spaces.

Energy Collection Features

A significant feature is the energy-collecting floor plate, which responds to foot pressure. This interactive component converts physical movements into electrical impulses that power the structure. Any extra energy gathered is stored in a built-in battery, which then supplies power to the vending machine. This integration not only enhances sustainability but also encourages user interaction and involvement.

Aesthetic Elements

The design places a strong emphasis on reflective surfaces that are angled to create a rich visual experience. These reflections interact with light from the environment, helping to establish an engaging atmosphere typical of raves. Alongside a surround sound system, the setup is specifically designed for an immersive experience, drawing in users and enhancing their enjoyment.

Materials and Construction

The framework uses aluminum rail frames that provide a lightweight yet sturdy construction. These frames are complemented by a lightweight surface material made of reflective mirror cloth. This choice supports both the practical and visual aspects of the structure. The reflective properties help it blend into the surrounding environment and enhance the overall sensory experience that this venue aims to deliver.

At the heart of the design is energy-efficient LED lighting, integrated into the framework. This lighting can be programmed for different visual displays, further adding to the dynamic presence of the mobile rave station in urban settings.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
