The Shala offers unobstructed views of the Vale de Moses for meditation.

Located in a peaceful forest setting, Vale de Moses’s Mirror is designed as a yoga house aimed at enhancing meditation and connection with nature. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the space while surrounded by trees and fresh air. The design concept focuses on creating harmony between the building and its environment, allowing it to function as both a destination and an extension of the natural surroundings.

Design Integration

The architecture features a pavilion that is raised off the ground, providing unobstructed views of the forest. Access is gained via a concrete stair, which serves as a transition from the outdoor landscape into the purposefully arranged interior. This elevation not only provides a sense of safety but also enhances the feeling of being within a sanctuary that invites introspection.

Material Consideration

Cross-laminated timber is used as the main material, promoting sustainability in construction while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere conducive to meditation. The polished aluminum elements embedded in the concrete reflect the surrounding area, allowing the building to visually blend in with its setting. This combination of materials contributes to the experience of being surrounded by nature while utilizing modern building techniques.

Functional Spaces

Inside, the yoga house features a private area with a kitchenette and changing rooms, enabling visitors to prepare for their yoga sessions. The central communal space, known as the Shala, offers expansive views over the Vale de Moses. This design allows for various activities throughout the seasons, as the Shala can connect to outdoor areas, effectively expanding the meditation space when conditions permit.

Design Details

The project includes communal spaces like a zen garden that promote relaxation and conversation among visitors. The circular shape of the garden serves as a focal point, encouraging interactions and shared moments of reflection. Overall, the design thoughtfully integrates housing with the natural landscape, creating an environment that invites both individual contemplation and social engagement.
