The design is located in the southern region of the UAE, where it meets the borders of Saudi Arabia and Oman, within the Arabian Oryx Protected Area. This location plays a significant role in shaping the building's relationship with the natural environment and its surrounding wildlife. The lodge offers a retreat for visitors, drawing inspiration from "Ensō," a Zen symbol that represents a circle, strength, and completeness. This concept is reflected in the lodge’s circular form, which enhances the connection between its interior spaces and the outside landscape.

Form Exploration

The lodge adopts a semi-circular layout that encourages movement within the space. Glazed exterior walls are protected by wooden louvers, which help control light and temperature. These elements address the region's warm climate while maximizing views of the nearby dunes and local fauna. The design creates an inviting environment that promotes interaction with the landscape.

Facade and Materiality

A key feature of the lodge is its mirrored façade, which reflects the desert surroundings and allows the structure to blend in with the terrain. This reflective surface captures views of the golden sands, creating a visual connection between the building and its environment. As the sun changes position throughout the day, the façade shifts in appearance, enriching the experience for those inside and encouraging deeper engagement with the outside world.

Sustainable Integration

Solar panels are incorporated into the design to facilitate energy efficiency. These panels are integrated into the mirrored façade, helping to meet the energy needs of the lodge while also minimizing environmental impact. This focus on sustainability aligns with modern practices in architecture, ensuring that the building is responsible and responsive to its ecological context.

Inside, the curved wooden louvers open and close throughout the day, creating a dynamic atmosphere. At night, they afford views of the starlit sky, while during the day they provide a more intimate and sheltered space. The play of light and shadow within the lodge enriches the overall experience, offering a tranquil environment that invites relaxation and reflection.
