CULLA is a thoughtfully designed building situated in the peaceful surroundings of the Yoga retreat in Vale de Moses. Its purpose is to offer a quiet space where guests can connect with nature and practice meditation. The overall design concept focuses on creating a protective shell that shelters visitors while providing expansive views of the natural landscape.

Architecture Concept

The structure features a unique protective shell that encases it, providing a sense of comfort and privacy. Most of the shell is closed, opening only in specific areas to reveal impressive views of the nearby slopes. This design strategy enhances the connection between guests and the natural environment. It allows for moments of reflection, blending the interior experience with the outdoor scenery.

Materiality

The exterior of CULLA has a reddish-brown covering that fits well with the colors of the surrounding woods. This choice in material reinforces the building's links to its natural setting. It also contributes to the overall aesthetics, making CULLA feel like part of the landscape rather than an intrusion.

Sustainability Features

CULLA incorporates several sustainable features that enhance its independence. A photovoltaic system meets all energy needs, with excess energy being returned to the grid. This aspect promotes a self-sufficient approach. A water tank provides sufficient drinking water for a week, while a phytoremediation system manages gray water disposal, allowing irrigation of the surrounding land without further energy consumption.

Spatial Arrangement

Inside, CULLA’s arrangement uses large windows to invite natural light and create open views. This design choice results in a bright and calming atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and contemplation. The intentional layout emphasizes the importance of the natural surroundings, offering guests an immersive experience that highlights the soothing effects of nature.
