The Monte d'Oiro winery is located in the scenic landscape of Portugal, blending the natural beauty of its surroundings with a focus on wine-making. It serves both as a production site and as a space where visitors can engage in the experience of tasting wine. The design centers around the concept of a "CELLAR," allowing for a unique journey that reflects the traditions tied to this craft.

Design Concept

The entrance features a red fence and two parallel walls, clearly marking the entry into the facility while inviting views of the surrounding vineyard. Visitors walk through a series of transitional spaces: an atrium, a porch, a hall, and finally, the tasting room. This sequence of spaces encourages interaction with the landscape and helps create a welcoming atmosphere.

Spatial Organization

The main structure is organized into three distinct areas: the atrium, the utilities zone, and the tasting area. This layout provides flexibility for various uses and enhances the sense of movement within the building. The two stone walls that frame the pavilion are angled to bring in natural light and offer wide views from many seating positions in the tasting area. This arrangement emphasizes a connection with the outside world and promotes a vibrant experience of the surrounding environment.

Materiality

The choice of materials is significant in conveying the overall aesthetic and enhancing the connection to the site. Rough stone is used for the main walls and the atrium, creating a robust and genuine feel. Light oak wood is incorporated in furniture elements like tables and chairs, introducing warmth and comfort to the interiors. Red metal accents, found in features like the stairs and the bar, add a touch of liveliness and character to the design.

Experiential Detail

The design includes rotating glass elements in the walls, which allow the space to open fully towards the vineyard. This feature removes barriers between indoor and outdoor areas, making it easier for visitors to appreciate the natural surroundings. At the center of the tasting room, a round bar serves as both a functional and visual focal point. It invites guests to enjoy their experience while being surrounded by a carefully designed environment that enhances the enjoyment of wine tasting.
