URBN BNKR is a contemporary structure located in Berlin, designed to meet the needs of underground music fans. It creates a safe and engaging space for techno music lovers. The design focuses on self-expression and community, reflecting the vibrant culture of the area while adapting to the realities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design Elements

The centerpiece of URBN BNKR is a well-designed dance floor. Speakers and woofers are positioned beneath a metallic grid, allowing sound to resonate as dancers move. This setup enhances the auditory experience, fostering a strong connection between the music and the people enjoying it.

Facade and Entrance

The building features two main façades made from recycled metallic bars. This choice not only prioritizes sustainability but also provides an open canvas for street artists to showcase their work. The entrance has a drawbridge-like design, inviting visitors to bow as they enter, establishing a sense of respect for the techno culture and the significance of the space.

Lighting and Atmosphere

Lighting is carefully arranged throughout URBN BNKR and plays an important role in setting the mood inside. The fixtures are thoughtfully designed to work with the acoustics and features of the architecture, creating a space that feels both inviting and energizing. This design choice enhances the experience for those attending events, providing a fitting backdrop for the music.

Sustainable Design Features

A solar panel roof represents the project’s commitment to sustainability, generating energy necessary for lighting and sound systems. Additionally, a skylight equipped with louvres allows patrons to enjoy the sunrise while maintaining their privacy. This feature adds flexibility, making the venue suitable for various occasions throughout the day.

The design also includes the idea of repurposing booths to form a larger urban techno bunker, serving as a reminder of collective experiences. The architectural details throughout URBN BNKR highlight the connection between community, culture, and ecological responsibility, establishing its significance in Berlin’s urban environment.
