5 key facts about this project
The Taupoki Cabin embodies the ideals of Seclusion, Nature, and Relaxation, set within the peaceful Circle of the Trees. The design aims to create a retreat and a space for reflection, allowing visitors to transition from the natural environment into carefully organized interiors. This architectural concept focuses on mindfulness, inviting users to engage with their surroundings through a thoughtful journey that begins with a view of the cabin and leads into its calming spaces.
Architectural Concept
The design presents a series of experiences that unfold as one approaches the cabin. The first sight of the structure serves as an invitation to a more serene atmosphere. This gradual shift is intentional, enhancing feelings of contemplation and inner peace. Spaces within the cabin support individual meditation as well as group activities, fostering a sense of balance that promotes overall well-being.
Materiality
Materials chosen for the construction highlight a commitment to sustainability while contributing to a warm aesthetic. Key components include Rough Sawn timber in different sizes, Concrete Footing made from Recycled Aggregate, and a Recycled Brick Fireplace. Zincalume Cladding adds durability and weather resistance, while Operable Windows allow for fresh air and natural light. Structural elements like Steel Feet and a Stud Frame ensure stability.
Design Details
Inside the cabin, the layout encourages a peaceful atmosphere, with open areas that facilitate social interaction and quiet reflection. Each space is designed to create smooth transitions from one area to the next. Natural light is incorporated through well-placed windows, connecting the interiors with the beauty of the landscape outside.
Final Design Detail
One notable feature is the interior fireplace made of recycled bricks, which functions as a central point in the living area. This detail combines practicality with warmth, providing comfort on cool evenings. It reflects the focus on using natural materials to create a space that encourages users to connect with both their surroundings and their own inner thoughts.
