Reclaimed Wood Accents and Traditional Tiles Form a Sanctuary of Rest and Connection

Project in-detail

Inspired by the form of angel wings, the design integrates reclaimed wood accents with traditional Portuguese tiles to create a tranquil space for rest, connection, and wellness within a vineyard setting.
5 key facts about this project
01
Reclaimed wood accents are used throughout to emphasize sustainability.
02
The architectural form mimics the shape of angel wings, enhancing the connection to nature.
03
Traditional Portuguese tiles are integrated into key areas, reflecting local culture.
04
The building is oriented to maximize views of sunrises and sunsets.
05
Special attention is given to carbon sequestration in the concrete structure.

The Monte d'Oiro Wine Hotel is located in a scenic area that emphasizes the relationship between architecture and wine-making. It serves as a place for relaxation, socialization, and wellness. The overall design aims to connect guests with nature and their surroundings, creating a comprehensive experience focused on tranquility and enjoyment.

Architectural Form
The design of the hotel is inspired by the image of angel wings. This shape enhances the visual appeal and creates a bond with the surrounding landscape. The building’s segmented form reflects natural elements, allowing spaces to encourage both community gatherings and personal reflection.

Functional Zoning
The layout consists of different areas for resting, gathering, and wellness. Each zone is designed for easy movement, making it simple for guests to transition between activities. The building’s orientation takes advantage of natural light, offering views of sunrises and sunsets that enhance the overall experience.

Material Integration
The materials chosen for the hotel emphasize honesty and environmental care. Concrete is used for its structural strength and ability to sequester carbon. Stone connects to local building traditions, while reclaimed wood adds warmth and texture. Glass elements create a bridge between the interior spaces and the vineyard, allowing guests to feel connected to the outdoor environment.

Cultural References
Traditional Portuguese tiles are featured in select areas, connecting the design to the local culture. This choice honors the region's history while incorporating modern elements.

Natural light plays through the building, creating patterns that evolve with the day. This dynamic quality adds depth to the spaces, enriching the experiences of those who visit.
