The Safe Ring project is located in the picturesque landscapes of New Zealand and serves as a retreat designed for couples. It focuses on creating intimate spaces that encourage emotional connections while enhancing overall well-being. The design concept revolves around biophilic principles, aiming to integrate the built environment with nature and create a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor areas.

Sustainability

The project incorporates several sustainable features, beginning with systems for harvesting rainwater, which effectively conserve water through underground storage. In addition, solar panels on the roof help to reduce energy usage, contributing to the goal of lessening the building's carbon footprint. This mindful approach reflects a dedication to establishing a lasting relationship with the surrounding environment.

Materiality

Reused metals are utilized for window frames, and reused wooden panels are integrated throughout the cabin. These choices highlight a commitment to resource conservation and environmental responsibility. By selecting materials that harmonize with the natural landscape, the design enhances visual appeal and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. The inclusion of local and native plants, along with a water feature, further strengthens the connection to the site.

Spatial Quality

Interior spaces are carefully designed to allow for movement and promote interaction among occupants. Open layouts ensure that natural light fills the cabin, leading to a calming ambiance that helps to reduce stress. Each area is created with the well-being of the occupants in mind, improving mood and providing a restorative experience that is both immersive and refreshing.

The overall design arrangement invites exploration, with views of the lush landscape framing each moment, emphasizing the ongoing connection between the building and its natural surroundings.
