The Valley Echoes is an architectural design located in the Umbrian valley near Assisi. It captures the essence of local architecture while aiming to connect with the surrounding landscape. The design takes inspiration from traditional buildings with simple, sloping roofs, creating a calming space that reflects the environment. By aligning the structure with the natural terrain and the nearby vineyards, the design creates a harmonious setting for its intended use as a gathering space and guesthouse.

Architectural Concept

The main idea behind The Valley Echoes is to enhance the connection between the building and the landscape. The layout promotes panoramic views and various experiences through careful changes in height and space. Subterranean rooms echo themes of winemaking, allowing for a rich storytelling element tied to the area’s history. The design invites visitors to engage with the landscape in a meaningful way.

Interior-Exterior Relationship

The design effectively blends interior and exterior areas. Large spaces for gatherings flow into smaller, more private zones, enabling different types of social interactions. This thoughtful arrangement allows for intimate experiences while providing options for open enjoyment of the landscape. Covered, semi-covered, and open spaces adapt well to changing light conditions throughout the day, particularly during sunset, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

Material Choices

The materials chosen for the building reflect a commitment to sustainability. The walls are made of rammed earth, which not only provides good thermal insulation but also connects the structure to the earth itself. Recycled wood is used in columns and window frames, reinforcing the ecological focus of the project. Solar panels and rainwater collection systems add to the environmental responsibility of the design.

Site Integration

The layout of The Valley Echoes considers the unique features of the site. The arrangement of the guesthouse and public gathering areas is designed to frame views of the vineyards, enhancing the user experience. This configuration supports a range of visual perspectives throughout the building, allowing for a strong relationship between occupants and the natural surroundings.

The roof design, with its gentle slopes, follows the contour of the valley. This feature draws attention upward and highlights the connection between the building and the sky, making it a significant element of the overall design.
