Casa da Serenidade is located within a remote valley and is designed to provide a space for relaxation and self-discovery. The architecture focuses on the connection between the inside and outside, encouraging visitors to engage with the natural setting. By thoughtfully arranging various spaces, the design aims to create an environment that invites reflection and peace.

Concept and Spatial Organization

The design seeks to blend the built environment with nature. It consists of three main areas: the entry home, bathhouse, and main room. These elements are raised above a rainwater collection bed, which helps integrate them into the landscape. Each space is arranged to highlight both views and experiences, creating a supportive environment for guests.

Interior Experience

Visitors enter through a modest wood-framed entry home that leads to a welcoming shala. This area promotes community and social interaction, serving meals and gatherings for those seeking connection and rejuvenation. The design encourages a nurturing atmosphere, allowing people to relax and share moments together.

Bathhouse Features

The bathhouse is built with rammed earth walls, which not only provide stability but also connect the structure visually with the landscape. Skylights made of polycarbonate allow natural light to illuminate the interior. Partially enclosed showers face a small surrounding garden. This setup enables private bathing while still maintaining a relationship with the peaceful outdoor environment.

Main Room Dynamics

The main room acts as the heart of the retreat, accommodating up to 45 participants for yoga and other activities. Its flexible layout allows for different arrangements based on needs. A raised floor conceals storage, while decorative tiles, known as azulejos, add a colorful touch to the space’s overall appearance.

Surrounding the building is a zen garden made up of five stones, each representing a natural element: earth, water, fire, air, and space. The integration of this garden emphasizes the connection to nature and provides a serene space for contemplation. It enhances the overall experience, encouraging visitors to reflect and engage more deeply with their surroundings.
