5 key facts about this project
### Overview
Located in Dubai, the House of Beginning addresses contemporary challenges of climate resilience and sustainability while engaging with rich cultural narratives. The design integrates modern architectural techniques with traditional influences, reflecting the essence of Middle Eastern urban environments. The primary intention is to create a living space that fosters family connections and well-being while emphasizing environmental stewardship.
### Spatial Organization and User Experience
The layout is intentionally crafted to enhance social interactions while maintaining privacy. The ground floor serves as a communal hub, featuring expansive areas that blend indoor and outdoor spaces, promoting natural ventilation and ample daylight. In contrast, the first floor includes private family areas, designed for comfort and tranquility, allowing families to coexist harmoniously. This dual-level arrangement facilitates a dynamic living experience, accommodating both social gatherings and personal retreats.
### Materiality and Sustainable Practices
The project employs locally sourced stone for its durability and thermal properties, supporting traditional building methods. A wooden framework, utilizing resistant timber, features mashrabiya screens that enhance privacy and thermal comfort. The structure also incorporates concrete for foundational stability, supplemented by innovative hexagon dry-joint masonry blocks that facilitate easy assembly and lower environmental impact during construction. Sustainable practices are pivotal, with over 90% of materials being sustainably sourced or recycled, and the design includes a hybrid cooling system that significantly reduces energy consumption. Rainwater collection within the garden promotes efficient irrigation, further exemplifying the commitment to minimizing resource waste.
