The Vale de Moses Meditation Cabins in Portugal represent an exploration of design grounded in the Chakana, an Inkan symbol that embodies balance and connection. Located in a serene environment, these cabins serve as retreats that promote meditation and introspection. The overall design concept prioritizes harmony with nature, creating spaces that enhance the user's experience through thoughtful layout and engagement with the landscape.

Design Concept

The cabins are carefully arranged to provide both solitude and opportunities for communal interaction. The layout reflects the natural contours of the land, guiding visitors along pathways that invite contemplation. Each element is designed to foster a connection with the surroundings, encouraging users to engage with the environment fully.

Materials and Structure

A variety of structural components are utilized to support functionality and stability. The foundations box ensures a solid base, while the perimeter structure plays a vital role in maintaining the overall framework. Vertical supports and secondary floor beams contribute to the design's strength. Wood decking and roof beams are chosen for their warmth, contributing to an inviting atmosphere that resonates with the natural setting.

Interior Environment

Natural light plays an important role in the cabins, with skylights incorporated to connect indoor spaces with the exterior environment. Plywood is used in the ceiling, offering a lightweight but robust solution that aligns with the overall aesthetic. Moisture trap textile layers protect the interior from excess humidity, while meditational curtains add softness to the space, creating a calming environment ideal for reflection.

Symbolic Elements

The roof pool serves a dual purpose as both a practical feature and a symbolic element of the Chakana. It reinforces the themes of balance and connection evident throughout the design. Every aspect, from the architectural choices to the selection of materials, contributes to a tranquil atmosphere. The result is a well-considered environment that supports deep meditation, fostering a sense of peace and mindfulness.
