The Monte d'Oiro Wine Hotel is located in a scenic area surrounded by vineyards, designed to serve wine lovers who appreciate a unique getaway. The setting enhances the overall experience, as the hotel aims to connect people with the beauty of the local landscape. The design concept is influenced by the natural surroundings, creating a strong relationship between the building and its environment.

Design Concept

The hotel layout features an open design that includes an esplanade and pool area. These elements provide space for relaxation and social interaction, offering unobstructed views of nearby vineyards. By integrating such features, the design enhances guest enjoyment and engagement with the landscape. The architectural forms echo the rhythms of vineyard planting, ensuring the hotel feels at home in its surroundings.

Structural Features

One standout element of the hotel is "The Bridge," which connects two sections of the structure. This feature not only facilitates movement between areas but also promotes visual connectivity among public spaces. Accessibility is prioritized throughout the hotel, allowing all guests to move freely and comfortably, regardless of mobility challenges.

Materiality

The hotel makes use of wood, steel, and concrete to construct its framework. These materials were selected for their durability and contemporary look. This combination contributes to a functional building that remains attractive and in tune with the environment. The choice of materials plays a significant role in how the hotel is perceived, lending it a sense of warmth and welcome.

Sustainable Practices

Sustainability is an important aspect of the hotel’s design. Photovoltaic modules on the roof of The Bridge are used for energy generation, while a geothermal heat pump located beneath the large parking area assists with heating requirements. Sun protection louvers are another feature that helps keep the indoor spaces comfortable while reducing energy consumption.

The Monte d'Oiro Wine Hotel reflects a thoughtful approach to architecture. It uses large windows to frame views of the vineyards, allowing guests to experience nature firsthand from the comfort of their rooms.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
