The Monte D'Oiro Wine Hotel is located within a scenic vineyard, combining comfort and nature to create a rich experience for guests. The design focuses on merging various functions such as accommodations, wellness services, and event spaces, all while respecting the surrounding landscape. This approach not only enhances guest enjoyment but also fosters a deeper connection with the local environment.

Design Concept and Functionality

The layout emphasizes a wide selection of accommodations that cater to many different people. Options include standard, superior, suite, master suite, and family-friendly choices, along with accessible rooms for those with disabilities. By offering diverse options, the hotel aims to attract a wide range of visitors. Each room is designed for inviting comfort, ensuring that every guest feels at home during their stay.

Spatial Organization and Guest Experience

The hotel's design enhances the connection between indoor areas and the natural landscape. Large windows and open spaces allow impressive views, especially from the restaurant and sky bar, creating a direct link to the vineyard, which elevates the dining experience. Health and wellness amenities like pools, gyms, saunas, and jacuzzis further promote relaxation and well-being. Guests are encouraged to unwind and enjoy both the hotel and the beauty of nature around them.

Operational Efficiency and Services

Attention has been given to operational aspects of the hotel to ensure a smooth experience for guests. Service entrances, parking areas, and kitchen facilities are all planned for efficiency. The flexibility of event spaces, including rooms that can be adapted for various uses and a conference area, allows the hotel to host different types of gatherings. This adaptability makes it suitable for both leisure and business occasions.

The architecture reflects a focus on sustainability and a sensitive connection to the landscape. Open spaces filled with light contribute to a sense of calm, enabling guests to truly relax and appreciate the serene surroundings of the vineyard. The design embraces simplicity while promoting an enjoyable atmosphere for all visitors.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
