The design proposal for Al Wathba Wetland Reserve introduces an engaging space that blends with the existing natural environment. Located in Abu Dhabi, this project aims to deepen visitor interaction with the unique wetland ecosystem. Through careful planning, the design seeks to promote education and awareness about biodiversity and the importance of preserving wetlands.

Design Integration

An elevated boardwalk system allows visitors to navigate the wetland without disrupting it. With wooden pillars secured by individual concrete footings, the structure minimizes ground disturbance. This layout accommodates the natural water level changes typical of wetland areas, showcasing a careful consideration of the ecological dynamics at play.

Visitor Facilities

At the core of the proposal is a two-platform observation tower that accommodates different visitor experiences. The first level features an amphitheater designed for educational activities, offering shade and ventilation for school and university groups. This design encourages learning and engagement with the local ecosystem, providing an important opportunity for understanding environmental issues.

The second level enhances visitor interaction with the landscape through an outer ring ramp. A wooden wall offers panoramic views, allowing for a connection with the rich biodiversity of the wetland. This design protects visitors from direct sunlight while encouraging wildlife observation and photography.

Observatory Experience

The observatory space serves to deepen educational outreach about the wetland's unique flora and fauna. It features wide corridors beneath a wavy roof structure, which draws inspiration from the wings of a flamingo. Visitors can enjoy 360-degree views, with designated areas for binoculars and telescopes. This setup fosters a sense of discovery, making the natural surroundings an integral part of the visitor experience.
