The SAUDADE NOSTALGIC RETREAT is located in Vale de Moses, an area known for its natural beauty and tranquility. It serves as a space for rejuvenation and reflection, allowing visitors to connect with the emotional essence of Saudade—a deep nostalgia for times gone by. The design integrates with the landscape, fostering a peaceful environment that encourages meditation and personal growth.

Landscape Integration

The retreat is positioned on a mountain slope, offering broad views of the surrounding area. This design choice allows the building to connect visually and spatially with nature. The slanted roof captures sunlight throughout the day, creating well-lit spaces that change with the sun's movement. At sunset, the views become particularly captivating, encouraging visitors to appreciate the natural beauty around them.

Structural Organization

A pilotis system elevates the structure, minimizing disruption to the existing terrain. This approach helps maintain the natural flow of water and air, ensuring ecological balance. A staircase guides guests from the main area through the forest, creating a thoughtful transition that leads to the shala. This path also directs attention toward an outdoor terrace, which serves as a restful space before engaging in yoga practice.

Interior Dynamics

Inside, the layout includes two intersecting volumes: one designed specifically for yoga and another that accommodates essential functions. This clear organization facilitates ease of movement and interaction. The exterior circulation area allows guests to feel more connected to their surroundings and culminates at the shala, where large glass doors open up to the views outside.

Artistic Expression

The shala features a mural that celebrates the beauty of the human form, adding an artistic touch to the space. The chosen colors—blue for calmness and yellow for brightness—create an atmosphere that fosters relaxation and inspiration. This art supports the functional aspects of the shala, promoting a sense of balance that echoes the overall philosophy of the retreat.

Natural materials such as wood, stone, and cork flooring enhance the warmth of the interiors and support sustainable building practices. These choices reflect a commitment to creating a comfortable environment where visitors can focus on wellness and self-discovery. Each design element contributes to a cohesive experience that aligns with the retreat's emphasis on connection and tranquility.
