Mountain Ash Sanctuary Enhancing Well-being Through Mindful Design

Project in-detail

Constructed with Mountain Ash, this sanctuary focuses on wellness and mindfulness through dedicated spaces for yoga and flower essence processing, integrating sustainable systems for optimal energy efficiency.
5 key facts about this project
01
Constructed primarily with Mountain Ash, enhancing regional material use.
02
Incorporates dedicated spaces for floral essence processing and yoga practices.
03
Features a solar power system to support energy independence.
04
Utilizes thermal management with strategically placed thermometers.
05
Designed with a focus on natural light and airflow throughout the building.

The design project emphasizes the concept of "TEMPLUM," a term that signifies a sacred space or temple. It is set in a location that encourages reflection and community participation. The intended function is to provide a versatile space for activities that promote health and well-being. The overall design blends practicality with sustainability, showcasing a modern approach to creating functional environments.

Design Concept

The project integrates various functional and sustainable elements, such as insolation, rain flow management, LED panels, and airflow optimization. These features reflect an awareness of environmental conditions, allowing the space to respond effectively to its surroundings. The focus on managing rain flow is particularly important for conserving water, which is essential in areas that experience varying amounts of rainfall.

Functional Spaces

The layout includes areas specifically designed for activities like flower essence processing and yoga practice. These dedicated spaces encourage wellness and mindfulness, aiming to create an atmosphere that supports both individual reflection and group interaction. The design allows for flexible use, catering to a range of community needs and activities.

Sustainable Systems

A notable aspect of the project is its solar power system, which consists of a main power line, control panel, battery, and photovoltaic installations. The use of renewable energy resources highlights a commitment to sustainability and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. This system meets the building's energy needs while promoting a more environmentally friendly approach to power consumption.

Thermal Management

Thermal management is achieved through the incorporation of floor and tank thermometers that monitor the internal environment. These devices activate a hot water pump based on temperature readings, ensuring that energy is used efficiently while maintaining comfortable conditions inside. The thoughtful integration of these systems enhances user comfort and demonstrates a practical approach to climate control.

Mountain Ash (Lat. Eucalyptus Regnans) is the primary material used in the project, characterized by its yellowish to light brown tone and straight grain. It is often utilized for flooring and veneer, providing a natural look that connects the interior spaces to the building's geographic context.
