The Tiny Kiwi Meditation Cabin is set within a rich natural landscape, designed to provide a space for meditation and self-reflection. It embodies the Japanese concept of Ikigai, which means "reason for being." The design incorporates ideas of personal fulfillment, peace, and balance, creating an environment conducive to introspection. With its unique forms and arrangement, the cabin invites users to connect with themselves and their surroundings.

Conceptual Framework

The core idea of the cabin is based on the principle of Ikigai, which inspires the shapes throughout the structure. These shapes are drawn from the Flower of Life, creating a sense of harmony and connectivity. This focus on balance informs the experience of those who enter the space, encouraging a deeper exploration of personal purpose and tranquility.

Spatial Configuration

Inside, the cabin is arranged over two levels. The upper level is dedicated to meditation, providing an area for quiet reflection. The lower level features a mobile altar for processing flower essences, making the space versatile and functional. This layout allows for smooth movement between areas, enhancing the experience of all who use it.

Natural Light and Environment

Natural light plays an important role in the cabin. A central light source illuminates the area where flower essences are processed, symbolically representing the growth of seeds within a flower. The pathway leading to the cabin features wooden discs that guide visitors through dense meadows and trees, cultivating a sense of connection with nature.

Material Details

The meditation cabin uses a modular wooden construction made up of four identical pieces, each equipped with windows on the walls and roof. This design not only simplifies assembly but also maximizes natural light and ventilation. The potential installation of solar panels on the flat roof further supports sustainable energy use. Additionally, the cabin features a stove that can burn locally sourced wood, emphasizing an intention to minimize environmental impact.

The shapes of the cabin blend with the landscape, offering a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Every detail is designed to encourage a deep sense of calm and connection, allowing individuals to engage fully with their meditation practice. As sunlight filters through the windows, the space becomes a sanctuary for those seeking clarity and reflection.

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
