### Project Overview
Pixel Homes in Puzzle City is an architectural development located in a dense urban area of Hong Kong, designed to address the challenges of high-density living. The project aims to enhance the functionality and adaptability of residential spaces to accommodate a diverse range of family sizes and lifestyles. By employing innovative design strategies, it seeks to create modular living units that respond to varying spatial needs within the urban context.

### Flexibility in Spatial Configuration
The design focuses on flexible floor plans that allow residents to adapt their living environments according to personal requirements. Key architectural features, such as sliding floor slabs and movable walls, facilitate easy reconfiguration of spaces, enabling seamless transitions between different living arrangements. The modular nature of the units allows for combinations of basic and double units, supporting a variety of family structures while promoting communal interactions through interconnected living areas.

### Sustainable Material Selection
The material palette for Pixel Homes has been carefully selected to promote sustainability and resilience. The structural framework utilizes concrete for its durability, while extensive use of glass in the facades enhances natural lighting and visual connectivity with the urban environment. Steel provides the necessary support for movable components, ensuring flexibility in layout configurations. Interior spaces feature wood, adding warmth and texture to the overall living experience. These materials collectively contribute to the project's ecological considerations, aiming for sustainable practices through potential green technologies like rainwater harvesting and solar energy solutions.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025.
