"Boundless" aims to enhance mindfulness through its design while situated in a forested setting. It focuses on the connection between the mind and body, creating a calm space for meditation and reflection. The project encourages a strong bond between occupants and the natural environment. Through careful design, boundaries between indoor and outdoor areas are softened, creating a harmonious living experience.

Conceptual Framework
This design is rooted in mindfulness, aiming to foster an awareness of thoughts and feelings in the present moment. The architecture invites nature inside, creating an experience where the outdoor elements seamlessly blend with the indoor space. This connection enhances the occupants' engagement with their surroundings, supporting a stronger relationship with the natural world.

Spatial Organization
The design incorporates flexibility to enhance the user experience. Spaces can be modified to meet individual needs and emotional states. Manual systems within the architecture promote interaction and adaptability, especially in the meditation area. Features that conceal certain elements reinforce the purpose of contemplation, making it a space for solitude and peace.

Environmental Integration
Sensitivity to the site context is critical for "Boundless." The scale and dimensions of the design align well with the forest nearby. The project encourages engagement with the natural flow of the day. Features like sliding doors and movable furniture allow users to adjust their space according to their daily activities, promoting a greater awareness of time and their environment.

Material Considerations
Though specific materials are not detailed, the design suggests an intention to create a calming atmosphere, aligning with the overall objective of mindfulness and presence. Simplicity and clarity in the forms contribute to a peaceful environment. The spatial arrangements encourage a retreat from distractions, supporting the essential concept of the space as a place for reflection.

A significant design element is a large window that frames the view of the surrounding forest, drawing in natural light and creating a visual connection between the interior and the outside world. This feature invites the beauty of nature into the living space, reinforcing the connection between the architecture and its environment.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
