Lotus-Inspired Space with Polycarbonate Privacy and Sound Isolation

Project in-detail

Constructed with polycarbonate for privacy and STURDYFROTH for sound insulation, the lotus-inspired space serves as a tranquil meditation retreat within the urban landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Inspired by the lotus bud, promoting serenity in urban spaces.
02
Utilizes STURDYFROTH for superior sound and thermal insulation.
03
Interchangeable panels allow for quick reconfiguration of space.
04
Polycarbonate elements provide instant privacy when needed.
05
Designed for versatility, accommodating multiple meditation uses.

The design features a compact layout of 3.14 square meters, addressing the challenges posed by urban living. Its function centers on creating serene spaces in crowded areas, making it suitable for locations at corners and crosstreets. The overall concept highlights organic modularity, which allows for the connection of individual units into multi-cabin complexes. This design promotes both flexibility and a deeper connection to nature.

Design Concept

The structure embodies an approach that values adaptability. Organic modularity enables each unit to be reconfigured easily based on user needs. Inspired by the lotus bud, the design symbolizes enlightenment, representing a journey from a chaotic environment to one of calmness. It serves not just as a building but as a place for reflection in the urban landscape.

Panel System

An important feature of the design is the use of interchangeable panels. These panels are easy to assemble and are waterproof, ensuring robustness in various weather conditions. The invisible anchorage system helps maintain a clean and modern look while providing necessary stability. This thoughtful approach ensures that the structure remains functional and visually appealing.

Atmospheric Elements

Creating an atmosphere suitable for meditation is central to the design. A curated sound system along with tailored lighting combines to foster a peaceful environment. The use of polycarbonate doors and windows, enhanced with Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal technology, allows for instant privacy. This makes it possible to engage in quiet contemplation without outside interruptions.

Materiality and Insulation

High-density polyurethane foam, known as STURDYFROTH®, plays a key role in the building's design. This choice offers excellent thermal and sound insulation, contributing to energy efficiency and minimizing external noise. The materials used support a quiet interior, helping to create a refuge from the busy city outside.

The overall design invites natural light, creating a relationship between the interior and exterior while offering a protected space that promotes introspection.
