5 key facts about this project
01
E-TransFlector technology allows for real-time adjustments of surface reflections and transparency.
02
The Urban Calm app enables users to personalize their audio-visual experiences within the pods.
03
Pods can transition between total opacity and transparency for varying levels of privacy.
04

05
The modular design allows seamless integration into various urban environments.

The Urban Calm Pod + App offers a unique solution for people seeking brief escapes from the busy city life. The design focuses on creating a network of small, inviting spaces that users can easily find and reserve through an app. The aim is to provide tranquility in urban settings, allowing individuals to unwind and recharge.

E-TransFlector Technology

At the heart of each pod is e-TransFlector technology, which employs thin film liquid crystal switchable mirrors. These mirrors can change between different states: pure reflection, half-reflection, total opacity, half-opacity, and total transparency. This ability allows users to customize their visual environment, enhancing their comfort while inside the pod.

User Interaction and App Interface

The Urban Calm app enhances the experience for users by enabling them to locate, reserve, and unlock the pods effortlessly. Once inside, users can manipulate the surfaces of the pod using the app to adjust the levels of reflection and transparency. This makes it easier for individuals to create a personal space that meets their needs for relaxation and focus.

Audio-Visual Environment

Along with visual adjustments, the app allows users to project digital content onto opaque and semi-opaque surfaces. This feature enriches the experience by combining visuals with an audio background, encouraging a deep sense of calm. Together, these elements work to foster a soothing environment, designed to help users clear their minds.

The configuration of the pods supports flexibility and adaptability, making them suitable for various urban contexts. Users can enjoy privacy or view the outside world, depending on their preferences. This balance is key to the design, offering a retreat from the surrounding city while remaining connected to its energy.
