The Monte d'Oiro Tasting Room is designed to fit harmoniously within the rolling vineyards of Alenquer, Portugal. It serves as a space for wine tastings, offering both functionality and visual appeal. The architecture reflects a modernized take on a private residence, with an emphasis on connecting the indoors and outdoors, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural setting.

Architectural Concept

The shape of the Tasting Room features a gabled roofline that references traditional Portuguese design while incorporating modern elements. This approach provides a sense of familiarity and comfort to visitors. The focus on hospitality and the relationship between the building and its environment is central to the concept, making each wine tasting experience more enjoyable and engaging.

Spatial Layout

Inside, the layout is carefully planned to enhance views of the vineyard from multiple angles. A covered terrace extends from the main building and is designed to blend into the landscape, inviting guests to explore. This outdoor space supports various activities and allows for a direct connection to the vineyard, enriching the overall experience of being in this unique setting.

Materiality

The exterior is finished with natural limestone stucco, which helps the building to blend into the surrounding scenery. Dark metal accents add a contemporary feel, providing contrast to the warm stucco surface. These materials are chosen not only for their visual qualities but also for their durability, supporting the building's function as a gathering place for wine enthusiasts.

Design Detail

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a tasting table that is split into two angled sections. This arrangement allows everyone to have a clear view of the vineyard, enhancing the experience of wine tasting. By fostering a sense of interaction between guests and the sommelier, the design carefully considers how people will engage with each other and the environment around them. The thoughtful details throughout contribute to a welcoming atmosphere that encourages exploration and enjoyment.
