The Pavilion of Humanity is a design that examines the connection between people and their environment. Located in a setting where it can engage with the Northern Lights, it serves multiple purposes, including workshops, cafes, and spaces for conferences. The idea behind the Pavilion is to reshape how we think about materiality, presenting it as a cloud of light that prompts reflections on what it means to exist.

Design Concept

The Pavilion encourages a deeper understanding of humanity through its interactions with nature. It emphasizes a changing view of materiality, focusing on light as a key factor in shaping how space is experienced. By presenting the structure as a cloud of light, it invites viewers to reconsider traditional ideas about buildings and their physical presence, promoting a more intimate relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Spatial Configuration

The layout features an open core where people circulate easily, connecting different functional areas through ramps. This design makes the Pavilion accessible and promotes a smooth flow between various spaces, enriching the overall user experience. Exhibition walls surround the central area, framing the interior and highlighting the importance of light in establishing the Pavilion’s unique atmosphere.

Material Consideration

The presentation does not detail specific materials used in the Pavilion's construction. However, it suggests a structural element that integrates well with the cloud of light. This approach aims to create a link between physical and non-physical aspects, encouraging conversation about how architecture affects our perception of space and identity.

Lighting Aesthetic

Light plays a crucial role in the design, shaping the Pavilion’s fundamental character. The balance of natural and artificial light enhances the feeling within the space, inviting individuals to engage with both the architectural form and the natural surroundings. This focus on lighting not only contributes to the ambiance but also emphasizes the Pavilion’s intent as a thoughtful exploration of how spaces can connect with their environment.
