The Hospice - Home for the Terminally Ill aims to provide a supportive environment for terminally ill patients. Located in Voronezh, Russia, the facility focuses on blending natural elements with the human experience to create a space that promotes healing. The design concept emphasizes emotional and physical well-being, achieved through thoughtful planning and the strategic use of natural light.

Spatial Organization

The layout of the hospice is designed to encourage both interaction and personal comfort. Common areas are thoughtfully arranged and include a Common Room, Lobby, Director's Office, Psychological Support Room, and Meeting Room. Functional spaces such as Dressing Rooms, Shower Rooms, and Toilets support daily activities. This organization fosters a sense of community and reinforces support among patients and staff.

Operational Facilities

Auxiliary facilities support the smooth operation of the hospice while maintaining a calming environment. Important rooms such as the Nurse Room, Drug Storage Room, Custodial Closet, Water and Heat Supply Room, and Pantry for Products are integrated into the overall design. This careful arrangement allows for the delivery of effective medical care without disrupting the serene atmosphere essential for patient comfort.

Natural Light Integration

A key feature of the building is its focus on natural light. The design is oriented to bring sunlight into public spaces, enhancing the experience of those present. The presence of light has well-documented benefits for mental health. By allowing ample sunlight to fill the interior, the design aims to improve the atmosphere, making it more uplifting for patients and staff alike.

Accessibility Considerations

Attention to accessibility is evident throughout the hospice. Design choices include features that accommodate individuals with mobility challenges, ensuring that everyone can navigate the space with ease. This focus on accessibility is part of a broader commitment to create a comforting environment for all users, reflecting an understanding of diverse needs.

Large windows allow views of the surrounding landscape, connecting the indoor environment with nature. This design choice brings a sense of calmness, complementing the overall aim of creating a healing space for patients during their challenging times.
