LINK ASSEMBLABLE presents a fresh approach to residential design, focusing on flexibility and artistic qualities. Located in regions that allow for a connection with nature, the project functions as both a living space and a piece of art. The design concept revolves around a modular home that adjusts to meet the changing needs of its occupants and the environment, fostering an engaging relationship with the surroundings.

Modularity

At the heart of the design is a Base Form that can be paired with three attachable pieces. This setup allows residents to create seven different configurations tailored to their preferences. Modularity is essential for this dwelling, as it promotes personal customization. Inhabitants can modify their space according to their moods and seasonal changes. This adaptability makes living more interactive and offers a visually appealing alternative to traditional homes.

Material Selection

The project uses wood cladding for the exterior, emphasizing a commitment to sustainability and durability. Inside, materials such as Wood Douglas and Oak add to a light and clean atmosphere, marked by a whitewashed finish. These choices not only look good but also require minimal maintenance. This practicality contributes to the overall longevity of the dwelling.

Kinetic Aspects

A notable feature of LINK ASSEMBLABLE is its ability to move. The structure can be oriented to capture sunlight and optimal views based on the occupants' needs. This responsiveness to natural light enhances the living experience. By allowing the home to interact with its environment, it strengthens the bond between the dwelling and its setting.

Residential Systems

Integrated systems are designed to promote sustainability and efficiency. Solar panels provide energy, supported by an additional generator if needed. The heating and cooling are managed by an air heat pump, which works alongside natural ventilation methods. This setup ensures that indoor air quality remains high, contributing to a healthier living environment.

With its clear focus on flexible living, sustainable materials, and a connection to nature, LINK ASSEMBLABLE invites occupants to engage with both their home and the landscape in meaningful ways. The design details work together to create a unique living experience.

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
