The Lookout Loop is situated within Pape Nature Park, designed to provide visitors with elevated pathways for engaging with the surrounding landscape. The structure follows a circular layout, incorporating curved stair sections that form a continuous loop. Its design allows for gradual movement and multiple viewpoints, offering opportunities to observe the environment while encouraging exploration.

Spatial Strategy and Experience

The loop consists of three pairs of curved stair sections that gradually widen as they ascend, culminating in observation decks that frame views of the park. The central open void introduces a sense of spaciousness, enhancing the connection between the structure and its natural surroundings. Sheltered areas beneath the stair sections provide resting points, integrating functional spaces without interrupting the flow of movement along the loop.

Materiality and Construction

The primary material is Siberian larch heartwood, selected for durability and resistance to decay. The wooden facade functions as both a railing and a visual screen, with evenly spaced gaps allowing natural light to filter through. The foundation uses wooden poles driven into the ground, providing stability while allowing the structure to integrate harmoniously with the terrain. The combination of carefully chosen materials and structural detailing supports both the functionality and aesthetic presence of the elevated walkway.
