Interactive Spaces Enhanced by 3D Scanning and Personal Artifacts

Project in-detail

Utilizing 3D scanning technology and emphasizing personal artifacts, the design creates interactive living spaces that blend individual narratives with community engagement functions.
5 key facts about this project
01
Emphasizes personal narratives through the integration of user-specific artifacts.
02
Incorporates advanced 3D scanning for precise spatial customization.
03
Features a unique bent A-frame design enhancing structural dynamics.
04
Utilizes virtual elements to create interactive living environments.
05
Encourages community engagement through shared spatial experiences.

The project explores a modern understanding of home, focusing on the connections between physical and digital spaces. It aims to create living environments that adjust to the identities of those who inhabit them. By emphasizing personalization and interactivity, it seeks to reshape how people experience their homes in today’s digital age.

Conceptual Framework
The design centers on the role of personal narratives and memories, with each object serving as a meaningful part of the living space. This approach highlights the importance of how spaces are organized, as it can greatly influence daily life and emotional well-being. Each residence becomes a unique reflection of its occupants, showcasing their stories and experiences.

Virtual Home Integration
A central aspect of the design is its integration of virtual elements that create interactive digital homes. This concept encourages environments that change in response to the needs and feelings of users. By employing advanced technologies, such as 3D scanning, the design process ensures that each space feels tailored to the specific characteristics and preferences of its inhabitants.

Spatial Hybridization
The project also examines spatial hybridization, allowing individuals to shift between different environments, both augmented and immersive. This flexibility enhances interactions within the space, offering a variety of sensory experiences that contribute to a sense of home. By layering different sounds and atmospheres, the design fosters an engaging setting that resonates on multiple levels.

Community Engagement
Another significant focus is on fostering community connections among users. The design encourages social interactions, creating a sense of belonging and shared experiences. This emphasis on community engagement aligns with contemporary living, where people increasingly value relationships and social ties.

Through a careful blend of personal narratives and technological components, the design promotes a distinctive living experience that reflects the lives of its inhabitants.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025.
