"The Cabana" Yoga Retreat is situated in Vale de Moses, Portugal. This retreat offers a peaceful environment aimed at yoga practice and personal reflection. The design takes cues from traditional mountain huts, combining elements from shepherd's stone shacks, wooden country homes, and greenhouses. This blend creates a user-friendly space that honors nature while offering modern functionality.

Concept and Layout

The design enhances the connection to the surrounding landscape by maximizing natural light and airflow. The entrance is located within a greenhouse, creating a direct link between indoor and outdoor areas. This greenhouse serves not just as a point of entry, but also features an indoor garden that improves light quality and supports natural ventilation, making the indoor climate comfortable without relying on mechanical systems.

Interior Spaces

On the first floor, key amenities are provided for users' convenience. There are shower and changing facilities, along with separate W/Cs. A kitchenette and lounge area encourage social interaction, fostering a sense of community among visitors. The arrangement of these spaces balances practical needs with a calming atmosphere, making it easier for guests to relax and connect with one another.

Upper Mezzanine and Yoga Space

The upper level contains the yoga space, designed to take full advantage of views overlooking the mountains and the greenhouse. This positioning enhances the overall experience of practicing yoga, allowing participants to feel more connected to the natural surroundings. It creates a setting conducive to mindfulness, aligning with the retreat's purpose of fostering personal well-being.

Sustainability Features

Sustainability is a key focus of the design. Various elements work together to reduce the project’s ecological impact. Photovoltaic panels are used for energy production, alongside materials such as wood boards and aluminium framing. The facility is designed for easy disassembly, which reduces future harm to the environment and aligns with responsible building practices.

Inside, light pours through the greenhouse, creating a warm environment that reflects the purpose of the retreat. The balance of indoor and outdoor spaces enhances the tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal setting for both yoga and contemplation.
