Illuminated Rest Cabin with Semi-Transparent Facade and Modular Structure for Cyclists

Project in-detail

With a metal structure and semi-transparent facade that emits a soft glow at night, the cabin offers modular sleeping and communal spaces tailored for cyclists on the Eurovelo 6 route.
5 key facts about this project
01
Modular design allows for adaptability to various group sizes.
02
The cabin features semi-transparent facade materials that glow at night.
03
Includes mosquito-proof foldable beds for enhanced user comfort.

Incorporates an external green wall to integrate nature into the design.

EURECA is designed for the increasing number of people who travel by bike along the Eurovelo 6 route, which features a mix of coastlines, rivers, and historical sites. The cabin serves as a resting place for cyclists, encouraging a connection to nature and promoting sustainable travel. The design focuses on functionality and adaptability, creating a comfortable space for relaxation and social interaction.

Modular Design

The cabin has a modular structure, available in two versions to meet different needs. The smaller version includes a covered bike rack, a fireplace, a counter, and benches for people to gather and unwind. The larger version builds on this setup with an extra module that contains four foldable beds that can keep out mosquitoes, along with a toilet and a shower. This ensures that cyclists have access to important amenities during their trips.

Spatial Integration

EURECA is oriented to maintain a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape. The open design invites users to engage with nature, enhancing their experience as they ride along the Eurovelo 6 route. By allowing fresh air and views of the outdoors from inside, it encourages relaxation and appreciation of the natural environment.

Material Use

The choice of materials is practical yet effective. The cabin uses a metal framework for added strength while remaining light enough for easy installation. Semi-transparent facade materials let the cabin glow at night without being too harsh. This design choice makes it visible to cyclists after dark, promoting safety and making the cabin a reassuring sight for tired travelers.

User-Centric Features

Thoughtful features enhance EURECA’s functionality for cyclists. Polycarbonate sliding doors provide easy access and ventilation. An external green wall introduces plants into the design, which contributes to the cabin's natural feel. Additionally, a locked bike rack with an air pump allows for quick bike maintenance. Foldable beds help maximize the use of interior space, making it practical for different group sizes while ensuring comfort for overnight stays.

The combination of these aspects leads to a space that caters to the needs of cyclists who travel along the Eurovelo 6 route. EURECA offers a practical and inviting retreat, designed to help users feel at home in nature after a day of cycling.
