5 key facts about this project
Vale de Moses Meditation Cabins are designed as a retreat focused on wellness and spiritual practices, located in the calm landscapes of Portugal. The project emphasizes the concept of "forest bathing," encouraging a deep relationship between individuals and nature. The cabins provide a personal and quiet space for reflection and healing.
Design Concept
The concept behind the cabins aims to create environments that support introspection and overall health. Each cabin is made for one guest and a therapist, structured to allow flexibility in placement throughout the retreat. Careful attention is given to user needs, prioritizing functionality while also creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Interior Layout
The interiors are organized into two main zones: an entry area and a massage area. The entry space includes practical features such as a hand washing station and a movable chest of drawers, which help in the storage of therapy materials. This detailed organization enhances the calmness and comfort that guests feel as they enter the retreat.
The massage zone features high rafters, contributing to an uplifting ambiance. This design choice promotes relaxation and supports healing practices. By dividing the cabin into these functional areas, the design fosters both comfort and purpose, fulfilling the retreat's aim of providing a peaceful sanctuary.
Sustainability Features
Sustainability plays a significant role in the design. Solar panels are included to heat the cabins during colder months, and a rainwater collection system will provide necessary water, making the cabins self-sufficient. This approach reflects a commitment to respecting the environment while providing essential facilities.
Material Selection
The material choices are thoughtfully considered, including gypsum board, mineral wool, natural wood rafters, OSB plates, hydro isolation, and profiled sheet metal for the exterior. Each material is selected for its practical benefits and its ability to blend with the natural surroundings, aligning with the retreat’s emphasis on sustainability and peace.
The cabins are designed with a light green facade that connects them to the forest environment around them, allowing for a sense of unity with nature.
