5 key facts about this project
### Overview
Located in Mývatn, Iceland, Brewscape integrates brewing culture with a deep respect for the surrounding natural landscape, characterized by its unique geological features, such as craters and lakes. The design aims to provide a space that attracts both beer enthusiasts and nature lovers, fostering a connection between visitors and the environment while highlighting the artistry of brewing.
### Materiality and Sustainability
The project employs solid-glued Nordic fir as the primary structural material, implementing double-wall construction techniques to enhance both strength and aesthetics. Concrete floors and walls offer durability and thermal mass benefits, contributing to effective insulation. Additionally, sheep wool serves as a natural thermal insulator, reinforcing the project’s ecological focus and promoting energy efficiency. High-efficiency glass elements allow for ample natural light while minimizing energy loss, ensuring the building's performance aligns with its sustainable objectives.
### User Engagement and Spatial Dynamics
The architectural design features hexagonal forms, reflecting the local topography and creating unique spaces throughout the structure. Key areas include a brewery, beer terrace, café, souvenir shop, and a distinctive beer spa, promoting diverse visitor experiences that encourage exploration and interaction. Furthermore, large windows and terraces invite scenic views of the craters and lakes, facilitating a transition between indoor and outdoor environments. Careful planning of access routes and circulation within the spaces allows for smooth navigation among various zones, including relaxation lounges and treatment areas designed to enhance the overall visitor experience.
