5 key facts about this project
**Overview**
Located in Dubai, the House of Nomad Winds represents an exploration of sustainable architecture that responds to the challenges of climate change in arid environments. This project integrates traditional design principles with innovative strategies, aiming to create functional living spaces that respect and reflect regional cultural heritage while promoting environmental responsibility.
**Spatial Configuration**
The design employs a series of interconnected, modular units that facilitate both community interaction and privacy. Wind towers, influenced by traditional Barjeel, enhance natural ventilation and thermal comfort, effectively bridging indoor and outdoor environments. This configuration aims to optimize airflow, light penetration, and water management, resulting in a habitat that not only aligns with local architectural traditions but also incorporates modern residential needs.
**Materiality and Sustainability**
A focus on locally sourced materials underscores the project's environmental sustainability. Key materials include sand for precast units, clay for thermal mass, and wood for intricate latticework (Mashrabiyat), all of which contribute to the architectural integrity and aesthetic value. Furthermore, the integration of solar panels ensures a renewable energy source, reducing the overall carbon footprint of the construction. A water management system that captures condensation further enhances sustainability by converting humidity into potable water, decreasing reliance on external water sources.
