The design features multifunctional spaces intended for community use, all located near Mývatn Nature Baths. At its core is a multipurpose hall that serves as a gathering place. Surrounding this hall are essential facilities such as a kitchen, a restaurant or cafe, restrooms, and storage options. The overall idea emphasizes interaction, with a design that encourages movement between indoor areas and outdoor spaces. These features aim to create an inviting place for people to come together.

Spatial Arrangement

The arrangement of the spaces reflects a clear intention to balance public and private areas. The multipurpose hall is strategically positioned, making it easy for visitors to access the kitchen and restrooms. Surrounding grassy areas enhance the utility of the site, providing outdoor spots for informal gatherings and relaxation. This thoughtful layout supports a sense of community and ensures that the facilities cater to diverse needs.

Sustainability and the Greenhouse

One notable aspect is the inclusion of a greenhouse, which highlights a focus on sustainability and education. This space is designed for cultivating plants, linking the built environment to the natural one. By incorporating the greenhouse, the design promotes ecological awareness among users. It serves as a reminder of the importance of caring for the environment while offering practical benefits to the community.

Material Considerations

Materials chosen for construction play a significant role in ensuring safety and longevity. Fire-resistant plasterboard, mineral wool, a light steel frame, insulated sheathing board, wall ties, and brick cladding are utilized to enhance the structure’s durability. These selections are made based on performance and safety standards, meeting the requirements for efficient use over time.

Natural Integration

The design takes advantage of its natural surroundings, considering the beauty and climate of the area. Natural light and airflow are effectively integrated into the multipurpose hall and greenhouse, improving comfort for users. This connection between the constructed and natural settings creates a unified experience, showing how thoughtful architecture can enhance both community life and appreciation for nature.
