Green Roof Overlooking Mývatn Baths with Multi-Purpose Social Spaces

Project in-detail

The green roof provides a unique vantage point for observing Mývatn Baths, while the multi-purpose hall and integrated greenhouse enhance community engagement and promote sustainable practices in a versatile dining environment.

Integrated greenhouse educates visitors on sustainable food production.
03
Multi-purpose hall adapts for various community events and gatherings.
04
Pathways ensure smooth circulation between indoor and outdoor areas.
05

The design integrates with the landscape surrounding Mývatn Baths and Hverfjall volcano, creating a space that invites visitors to connect with nature. With its purpose as a multi-use venue that includes a restaurant, greenhouse, and areas for events, the design emphasizes the relationship between dining and the natural environment. The overall approach prioritizes accessibility. Visitors can move freely between indoor and outdoor areas, enhancing their engagement with both.

Site Organization

The layout is carefully structured to guide movement through distinct zones. These include a greenhouse, a multi-purpose hall, and a market located beneath a green roof. Pathways direct visitors smoothly across the site, reducing conflicts between dining guests and those exploring outdoor spaces. Green steps leading to vantage points further strengthen connections to Mývatn Baths, offering visual enjoyment of the surrounding area.

Green Roof and Viewing Areas

A notable aspect is the green roof, which offers a higher view of the landscape. Equipped with telescopes, this space encourages visitors to engage more fully with the scenery, particularly the Hverfjall volcano. The roof contributes to the project's sustainability goals by blending built forms with nature, which minimizes the structure's ecological impact.

Social Spaces and Community Engagement

Designated open areas for social events promote community interaction. These spaces are ideal for outdoor activities and foster a sense of connection among visitors. The multi-purpose hall is flexible, adapting to various needs throughout the seasons. This attention to social gathering supports the overall goal of creating a lively atmosphere.

The greenhouse acts not only as a functional area but also serves to educate visitors about food production. It highlights the link between where food comes from and the dining experience, encouraging a greater appreciation for sustainable practices. The project becomes a place for both enjoyment and learning, set within the beautiful landscape of Mývatn.
