5 key facts about this project
The Komorebi Meditation Cabins are located at the Vale de Moses Yoga Retreat in Portugal. Set among dense coniferous forests, these cabins offer a quiet space for meditation and reflection. Inspired by the idea of "Forest Bathing," the design focuses on how sunlight filters through trees, creating an experience that connects users to the natural environment around them.
Design Concept
The design explores how spaces affect meditation and personal calm. It emphasizes a strong relationship between the structure and the landscape. The cabins feature Glulam elements that are carefully shaped and positioned to create a flowing interior. This arrangement allows visitors to move naturally between different areas, encouraging engagement with both the space and the scenery.
Spatial Organization
Light is an essential aspect of the cabin’s design. The angled Glulam elements form skylights that let natural light fill the interior, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere. Large windows in the therapy areas bring the outside in, offering expansive views of the forest. These visual connections help guests feel at ease and involved with nature throughout their visit.
Material Selection and Sustainability
Glulam is the main material used for construction, chosen for its strength and lightness. This decision reflects a commitment to environmentally friendly practices while maintaining a straightforward design. The cabins incorporate renewable energy sources, ensuring they meet their energy demands without negatively impacting the surroundings.
Aesthetic Detailing
The relationship between form, light, and views creates a cohesive design experience. The Glulam elements are skillfully joined to allow for easy assembly and disassembly, maintaining structural performance. This thoughtful detail not only adds to the visual character of the cabins but also highlights the project's adaptability within its natural context.
