The project "The Nest" represents a holistic approach to architectural design tailored for meditation and spiritual reflection. Positioned in a tranquil setting, this structure aims to facilitate mindfulness practices through a carefully considered layout that integrates nature with built form.

The overall function of the design is to provide an intimate, serene environment conducive to meditation. The octagonal layout encourages natural flow and movement while providing various perspectives of the surrounding landscape. Key structural components include expansive glass windows that enhance visual connectivity to nature and promote an abundance of light within the space. The design incorporates a vaulted ceiling which not only elevates the experience but serves to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow as the sun moves across the sky.

Unique Aspects of Design

A hallmark of "The Nest" is its sustainability focus. By utilizing sustainably sourced timber, the project aligns with contemporary architectural trends that prioritize environmental responsibility. This choice of material complements the natural setting while providing warmth and texture to the interior. Concrete is employed strategically for its durability, particularly in foundational elements, ensuring long-term resilience.

The integration of inner gardens distinguishes this project from typical meditation spaces. This feature not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also improves indoor air quality and extends the experience of nature into the interior. Geometric elements such as the octagonal structure reflect principles of sacred geometry, often sought in spiritual architecture, thereby enriching the user's experience through a meaningful spatial arrangement.

Detailed Architectural Elements

A key feature of "The Nest" is the central bonfire area, which serves as a communal focal point, promoting social interaction and collective meditation practices. The design extends beyond individual contemplation, encouraging shared experiences in a space designed for community engagement.

Additionally, the open ceiling serves both functional and experiential purposes, allowing for a connection to the natural elements, such as the sky and changing weather patterns. The combination of light and geometric patterns formed by the ceiling design adds a layer of intricacy to the user's journey within the space.

To gain deeper insights into this architectural design, including the precise architectural plans, sections, and unique ideas, exploring the full project presentation is encouraged. This analysis highlights the technical merits and innovative approaches of "The Nest," emphasizing its significance in contemporary architectural discourse.

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
