WOMB 2.0 is an architectural design project that embodies principles of meditation, environmental harmony, and community engagement. The structure presents a modern interpretation of a communal retreat, focusing on creating a space conducive to mindfulness practices. The project utilizes a geodesic form, emphasizing structural efficiency and aesthetic coherence, while integrating seamlessly with its natural surroundings.

The design encourages a retreat from daily distractions, promoting a sense of belonging among users. This architectural project is engineered to serve multiple functions, including a yoga space and a hub for individual and community meditative practices.

Sustainability and connection to nature are central themes of WOMB 2.0. The application of natural materials alongside advanced engineering techniques enhances its ecological footprint while ensuring structural integrity. The combination of reinforced glass and wood creates an inviting interior environment, allowing natural light to permeate throughout the space, thereby fostering a conducive atmosphere for relaxation and reflection.

Unique Design Approaches A key feature of WOMB 2.0 is its geodesic dome structure, which provides both aesthetic appeal and structural benefits. The dome's design utilizes a cuboidal steel frame and galvanized steel cable for superior tensile strength, facilitating an expansive open area inside without intrusive support columns. This open layout enhances the space's multifunctionality.

Furthermore, the project incorporates a retractable attic ladder for efficient movement between levels. Water sustainability is emphasized through an innovative washbasin design, promoting minimal environmental impact. Solar panels installed on the roof harness renewable energy, reducing reliance on conventional power sources.

Architectural Details The use of sustainable materials ranks high in the design ethos of WOMB 2.0. Materials such as steel, reinforced glass, and cotton fabric have been carefully selected for their durability and environmental impact. The wooden flooring adds warmth to the interior and complements the natural light filtering through glass walls.

The ventilation system employs a stack effect, promoting airflow and maintaining a comfortable atmosphere for users engaging in meditation practices. By coupling architectural design with advanced environmental systems, WOMB 2.0 offers a holistic approach to modern architectural solutions.

Readers interested in further exploring WOMB 2.0 are encouraged to review its architectural presentation for detailed insights into architectural plans, sections, and innovative design elements that define this unique project.

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge invites architects and designers to create iconic public sculptures for one of two sites in Saudi Arabia: Abu Hadriyah Road or the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar. Proposals should reflect Saudi identity, culture, and future aspirations.

`

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge is an international architecture and design competition inviting creatives to shape the future of Saudi Arabia’s public spaces. With a total prize fund of €50,000, the competition calls for sculptural proposals that merge cultural symbolism with innovative design, offering participants a chance to see their concepts brought to life in a rapidly transforming national context.

Organised by Buildner in partnership with the Mujassam Watan Initiative, the challenge focuses on two prominent locations: Abu Hadriyah Road, a major highway and gateway into the Eastern Province, and the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar, a pedestrian-focused waterfront district. Designers must select one site and develop a sculpture that engages with its surroundings—whether addressing the fast-paced dynamism of a transit corridor or creating moments of interaction along a coastal promenade.

Proposals should be bold, site-specific, and rooted in narrative—drawing on themes such as heritage, national identity, transformation, and dialogue. Environmental responsiveness, material durability, and feasibility are strongly encouraged, as winning projects may be selected for actual construction.

Each submission must include four A2 landscape presentation boards, a cover image, and a written project description. The competition is open to professionals and students alike, working individually or in teams of up to four people. No professional license is required.

Registration is open until July 24, 2025, with final submissions due by August 27, 2025. Winners will be announced on October 1, 2025.
