5 key facts about this project
01
Efficient ventilation design enhances air quality throughout the facility.
02
Galvanized steel elements provide durability and a modern aesthetic.
03
Strategically arranged workstations streamline coffee preparation and service.
04
Integrated water management systems optimize hygiene and sustainability.
05
Decorative features inspired by coffee culture create a unique brand identity.

The design introduces a modern coffee facility that integrates well into its urban surroundings. Focusing on coffee culture, the structure emphasizes practical use while creating a welcoming environment for customers. The intention is to enhance the user experience through careful attention to both functionality and style.

Design Elements

The front elevation includes air inlet vents and illuminated decorative grooves. These features support air circulation and add visual interest to the building’s facade. The combination of these elements reflects current architectural trends, merging practicality with aesthetic appeal. Decorative fins contribute to a lively facade, creating changing patterns of light and shadow throughout the day.

Infrastructure

The back of the building incorporates a water supply duct and a grey water drainage duct, essential for effective operational management. These elements ensure that the service areas function smoothly, supporting the daily tasks needed for a busy coffee shop. Practical details like these play a crucial role in the overall success of the facility.

Floor Plan

The design focuses on optimizing the layout to encourage easy movement between different areas. Important features such as the pastry display window, espresso machine, and drink dispensers are arranged to streamline the process from preparation to customer service. This thoughtful organization minimizes delays and clearly aligns with contemporary standards in hospitality design.

Materiality and Components

The structure includes a welcoming entrance door as a prominent feature. Composite floor decking rests on galvanized steel floor joists to provide durability and stability. In addition, galvanized steel bars enhance support, ensuring safety within the building. The facility also integrates sustainable features, including a water supply and filtration system, which focus on hygiene and adhere to modern environmental standards.

A soundproof Cummins QD diesel generator is part of the design, contributing to effective operation without distracting customers. Each element of the design supports the overall theme of coffee culture, where attention to detail reflects a careful and thoughtful planning process. The result is a space that appeals to both functionality and the enjoyment of coffee.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
