The design of MICROHOME 2020 addresses the needs of modern living through a compact and efficient layout. Located in the scenic area of Guatape, Colombia, this micro dwelling offers a practical solution to today’s housing challenges. The home combines functionality with a thoughtful approach to sustainability. It provides flexible spaces that can change according to the needs of the occupants while maintaining a strong connection to the natural surroundings.

Material Selection

This home makes use of FSC-certified lumber, which ensures that the materials come from responsibly managed forests. Such choices highlight a commitment to environmental stewardship. The wooden facade allows for ventilation, which improves indoor air quality. Insulated glass doors and windows are used to bring in natural light while reducing energy consumption. This design effectively balances comfort and efficiency.

Functional Layout

The layout encourages a mix of different activities, allowing for transitions between work and relaxation. A workspace that can roll away or expand offers versatility, adapting to the daily routines of the occupants. The bedroom area includes a queen flip-up bed and a sofa bed, which provide multiple sleeping options for various needs throughout the day. This flexibility makes the space practical for both individuals and families.

Sustainable Features

Incorporating systems for solar energy collection and water harvesting reflects a proactive attitude towards resource sustainability. These features make it possible for the home to lessen its dependence on conventional utilities. This focus on self-sufficiency is vital for promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle within an urban setting.

Connection to Nature

The design creates a strong bond with the beautiful landscape of Guatape. Large windows allow for expansive views, making the natural beauty a part of daily life. This feature enhances the living experience, inviting the outdoors into the space. The connection to nature is central to the design, emphasizing the importance of natural settings in enhancing well-being.
